TurboScribe Alternatives: Longer Files, Bigger Free Allowances, Pay As You Go
Data checked:
TurboScribe is a web app for one job: uploading audio and video files and getting text back. Its free plan transcribes 3 files a day, each up to 30 minutes; the Unlimited plan costs $20 a month, or $10 a month billed yearly, and takes files up to 10 hours or 5 GB, in bulk uploads of up to 50 files. It lists 98+ languages, and its FAQ says it never trains AI models on your content. What it does not do: join meetings (there is no bot), and the pages we checked do not list export formats. If any of that is the problem, here is where to look.

If the 30-minute free cap is the problem
Most free tiers cap each file, and often harder than TurboScribe does:
- Notta free transcribes only the first 3 minutes of each recording.
- Good Tape free allows 3 files a month, up to 30 minutes each, with waiting times.
- Transkriptor lists a Free tier of 90 minutes; how often it resets was not verified.
- Rev gives 45 free minutes a month, English only.
- Otter.ai allows 3 file imports in total on its free plan, each conversation capped at 30 minutes.
The only way to transcribe long files free with no minute allowance is to run the model yourself: Buzz, Vibe and MacWhisper’s free version work offline on your own computer. See offline transcription software.
If a subscription is more than you need
TurboScribe Unlimited at $10 a month (billed yearly) is cheap only if you transcribe regularly. For occasional files:
- Sonix: $10 per hour, pay as you go, no subscription.
- Maestra: $12 per 60 transcription minutes on its pay-as-you-go rate.
- Temi: $0.25 per audio minute, English only. Its homepage now directs visitors to Rev, and current independent checkout was not verified.
- Scribie: from $0.80 per minute with human verification.
- Rev: human transcription at $1.99 a minute.
Below roughly one hour a month, pay-as-you-go costs less than the annual rate; above that, the flat plan wins.
If you need single files longer than 10 hours
TurboScribe’s 10 hours per file is the largest verified per-file cap in our data. To go beyond it, you need a service that publishes no numeric cap: Sonix states no per-file limit (plans differ in storage, 5 GB to 100 GB), Good Tape Pro states no file-length limit, and Happy Scribe lists unlimited minutes per recording on Pro and Business (Basic caps recordings at 90 minutes). Offline apps also state no length limit. Every number we verified is in long audio transcription.
If you also record meetings
TurboScribe uploads files only. If the recording should happen automatically, Notta joins Zoom, Google Meet, Teams and Webex; Otter.ai, Fireflies.ai and MeetGeek cover Zoom, Meet and Teams. The wider comparison is in Fireflies.ai alternatives.
If you need named export formats
The TurboScribe pages we checked do not name export formats, so if SRT or DOCX must be in writing before you pay, look at tools that list them: Notta (TXT, DOCX, PDF, SRT, VTT, XLSX on paid plans), Sonix (DOCX, PDF, TXT, SRT, VTT), Transkriptor (TXT, SRT, DOCX), Temi (DOCX, PDF, SRT, VTT) and Happy Scribe (TXT and SRT, with more formats from Basic up).
If you want the privacy terms in a policy, not an FAQ
TurboScribe’s no-training statement sits in its FAQ; we have not yet read its full privacy policy. Policy-level statements exist at Sonix (security page: never on any plan or trial), Good Tape (privacy policy: files are never used for training) and Transkriptor (security page: not used to train its own or third-party models). More in transcription apps that don’t train on your data, and you can filter everything yourself in the directory.
